Conference: Exhausted Women – Exhausted Welfare

The conference theme Exhausted Women – Exhausted Welfare attracted researchers and practitioners from Sweden, other Nordic countries, Europe and South Africa at a conference November 23-24 2017.

The seminars was held in the new Humanities Theatre at the University of Uppsala.Recent developments in welfare, care and diaconia were discussed from a gender perspective.

The conference was opened by Ninna Edgardh, chair of the International Society for the Research and Study of Diaconia and Christian Social Practice (ReDi).

The keynote lecturers focused on changes in care and diaconia through growing globalisation and diversity and on new interdisciplinary approaches to the field. These included Professor Hannah Bradby from the Department of Sociology at the University of Uppsala who reported from an ongoing European research project that explores care needs and care experiences in four multi-cultural neighbourhoods in Sweden, UK, Germany and Portugal.
