Traumatic experiences and meaning making

The overall purpose of this PhD-project is to explore how traumatic experiences may influence the existential meaning making and the subjective wellbeing of the victims.
The study is carried out on the survivors of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. PhD student Yukako Kawanaka will also look into the role played by religion in the re-creation of existential meaning, resilience and recovery as well as for the subjective wellbeing of the victims, an a Japanese context and in relation to natural disasters. That will be done by studying religious bodies and faith based organizations present in the area that was hit by the disaster.
